Top WCW Matches Of All Time

Updated: Mar 24

Before WWE bought WCW, WCW was arguably better than WWE. WCW certainly had great matches, here are the best ones.

#10 Big Van Vader Vs. Cactus Jack, Halloween Havoc 1993

These two wrestlers put on a FIGHT. Their rivalry was known to be tough (some of their matches were so tough WCW couldn’t put it on TV) but this one was entertaining and TOUGH. Vader did a bone crushing chair shot to Cactus, Cactus even got powerbombed on concrete! Cactus and Vader went crashing through the graveyard! All in this awesome match.

#9 Terry Funk Vs. Ric Flair, Great American Bash 1989

These two men had a heck good of a rivalry with multiple amazing matches. Each man was targeting the other’s neck which led them into a bloody battle. However, Flair amazingly defended his championship.

#8 Sting’s Squadron Vs. Dangerous Alliance WrestleWar 1992

This IS the best war-games match of all time. Back then all of the war games matches were just 10 people punching each other, this match was much different and much better. The match also had great star power with Sting, Ricky Steamboat, Steve Austin, and Rick Rude. Eventually, Sting forced Bobby Eaton to submit.

#7 Terry Funk Vs. Ric Flair Clash Of Champions 9

It was an I Quit match. These two men did an excellent job of finishing their classic rivalry. It can be very hard to put on a great I Quit match, with the referee running around with a microphone, but they did it, in one of the best I Quit matches of all time. Even the crowd were on their feet. Eventually, the pain of Funk’s leg was too much to handle.

#6 Sting Vs. Cactus Jack Beach Blast 1992

This match was an absolute street fight. Cactus used the concrete floor to his advantage. He did a sunset flip from the ring apron to the concrete. He also did an elbow drop on the cold hard concrete. They fought in the crowd, on the entrance way, in the ring, and on the outside of the ring. Sting smacked a steel chair on the back of Cactus Jack. In the end, Sting delivered a thunderous clothesline from the top rope to the entrance ramp.

#5 Pcychosis Vs. Rey Mysterio Bash At the Beach 1996

It was a 5 star match in my opinion (Dave Meltzer rated it 4.75 stars). It was a high flying matchup where they did moves nobody had ever seen before, Rey did a top rope Frankenstein to end the match and the announcers couldn’t name what it was! They brought the high flying moves from Mexico to WCW.

#4 Rey Mysterio Vs. Eddie Guerrero Halloween Havoc 1997

There may be no wrestler with more chemistry than Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. Whether it be WWE or WCW both men find a way to put on an amazing match. This was their best match together, Eddie did a great job with technical wrestling, and Rey did a FANTASTIC job with high flying. In the end Mysterio did a completely INSANE hurricanrana counter.

#3 Ric Flair Vs. Ricky Steamboat WrestleWar 1989

The perfect end for the greatest trilogy of matches in the history of matches. Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat have incredible chemistry. Some consider this the best televised Ric Flair match in history. However, this was only the beginning of the trio of matches between Flair and Steamboat on this list!

#2 Ric Flair Vs. Ricky Steamboat Clash of the Champions 6

Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat battled for nearly an hour. Some say this is the best Flair and Steamboat match. One guy even put this match at number 1. They even fought outside of the ring, when flair did a body slam on the outside which was basically concrete. The real fun came in the ring. Both these men put on a classic. This match was declared the best match of the year, but there is one more match between these men.

#1 Ric Flair Vs. Ricky Steamboat Chi Town Rumble 1989

This is the DEFINITION of a 5 star wrestling classic. It was fast paced and very fun to see all of the moves add up to create this nearly perfect match. When you see Ricky Steamboat in green and Ric Flair in red you know it was the Chi Town Rumble clash. This is arguably the best match of all time. ( DEFINITELY the best WCW match of all time)
